The Alexander Technique (AT) is a skill that can be learned. It involves developing the awareness of how you move, how you breathe and how you react with the world around you. It is most commonly known as a method of pain relief or posture improvement, but it is much more. It is mainly concerned with the head, neck, back relationship and how this influences the way we move.
Reasons for visiting an Alexander Technique Practitioner include: general aches and pains, RSI, improving posture, sports performance, stress management, pregnancy and professional development. The Technique is grounded in movement and self examination of postural habits. Although it is calming and de-stressing, it is not a relaxation session. It is not an alternative or complementary therapy either; it is a method of re-education.
Before taking AT lessons, you should check that your Practitioner is qualified and registered. Daryl is a member of STAT, the worlds oldest and largest AT Professional Society.
Daryl Joyce currently offers Alexander Technique sessions in Morden, Surrey, and in Hounslow, West London.
You can also have a session at the Putney Bridge Clinic in Putney, South West London
